My Old Ball and Chain is getting Older

Maggie Georgianna Baxter turns 2(?) on December 16th. She is busy being a fill-in mother these days and a little extra birthday cheer might be nice. Her email is maggiegeobax@yahoo.com. I already bought her everything she requires: 4 lbs of Dove Bars, a bright pink Mazda Miata, Skittles, and the complete works of Jude Devereaux. So an email alone will certainly do.

Indecision 2008

So I got hired to write for the Daily Show's Indecision 2008. What that means is this: "Hey, can you write fake facts about a few swing states? Its for the internet NOT real television." So I said yes and here are the ones I wrote. I guess this year we can afford TWO turkeys at Thanksgiving.

I also wrote one for Georgia that should be posted this week.

My two cents

It is very hard to articulate my feelings about this election so I decided to post this video as a representation of my emotions.

Peace is Patriotic

It would be great to hear from the young cousins as well, re: political debate heating up the emails at the moment. Also, go vote.

What really matters.

It doesn't matter if you are a democrat a rebulican an independent or green. What matters is that as humans we are losing ground to the monkeys.

Racing....er....Walking for the CURE!!

The team was out in force with all of the usual suspects making an appearance:
Chuck, Minnie, Pat Ball, Steve, Kate, and the Hunt Valley crew. Notably absent were the younger generation, though being in Miami with the Ravens seems like a pretty good excuse. Next year: personalized tees!

Philly Cheesesteak Winner

When you're talking trucks you're talking Koons. When you're talking Philly Cheese steaks you're talking Steve's Prince of Steaks on Baselton Ave in NE Philly. Steve's has the best cheese steaks in the country and the largest cheese steak in the world...seriously.
Like all great food destinations Steve's is a total dump but at least the cashiers are surly. The clientele is a mix of geriatric crazies, black women in light pink scrubs on lunch breaks, and local Philly white trash. There is one arcade game towards the back of the place and for some reason it is X-Men Children of Atom. There are two windows at Steve's: One for ordering cheese steaks with either American or "Whiz", the other for ordering fries and drinks. Make sure you order the cheese steaks first, unlike I did, so that you don't look like a total buffoon, as I did. $5.75 gets you the best cheese steak in the world and all the pickles, banana peppers, and hot sauce you can slather on it.

If you have a weekend with nothing to do, and you feel like raising your cholesterol 16 points in one sitting, head to Steve's and indulge.

Notice the X-Men game behind me.

2009 Offical Farrell Mascot Winner!

After months of campaigning, battle royales, and "2nds" at breakfast buffets, the results are finally tallied and the winner for Farrell Family Mascot of the Year 2009 is .... Whiplash!

Whiplash, or as college kids know him "that monkey that rides that dog", won by 1 vote narrowly defeating the squirrel on water skis and the kid from the 80s Elio's Pizza commercials who said the cheese goes "blub, blub, blub."

As our 2009 Mascot you can expect Whiplash to "do his thang" at every wedding, graduation, sporting event, bar mitzfah, family dinner, and child birth. Thank you all for voting, especially Uncle Paul who voted twice for the "Vlasic Pickle Crane", we look forward to next year's competition.

Scott and Adam UNITE!

Here is a new music video for the band "The New Pornographers". Scott was on the Penelope side of things. Adam was on the band side of things. The rest is webisode history.

*It should be noted that Scott is the dancing horse, the unicorn is several scenes, the owl in the tree, and the guy who wiggles the dart from the blow gun.

Alrighty Folks . .

...I know my life is pretty routinely dull at the moment, but I cannot believe that no one in this big, odd family has had any newsworthy, er, news to post in the last 2 weeks. Come on people!! Let's see some pictures! God knows I need to read something besides Torts while I'm in the library...

The Art and Sciene of Catfishing.

Greeting Travelers!

During a recent trip to Mississippi I was blessed with the opportunity to get a true taste of local flavor. That flavor: Netting catfish and eating them within an hour. Two things should be noted 1) The shorts were recommended to me and not a choice of my own (though I've worn shorter) 2) 30 catfish were "wrangled" in 6 minutes.

It's not oil prices. It's not the War In Iraq. We can't even blame the lending bailout. It's because important finance magazines are sourcing idiot people like me for insight. I move markets...down.

Shot of the Fringe

Click on the link below to see a nice little video by a British comedian for the Guardian. While this is very entertaining for me (some good shots of Edinburgh and a particular courtyard that I used to haunt) around the 4 minute mark you can see some footage of the venue (the Underbelly) and the stage where Eamonn is performing. Viva la Fringe.

Will's feet sighted!!! Waiting for further confirmation of location

In the Mississippi River of all places. From the looks of his other pics, however, it seems Will has made it to the beautiful NW.

Come in Camp Will Farrell, do you copy?

In the wings

Should you be in New York this weekend and jonesing for some female-alt-country something-something, then head to Union Hall and check out Jessica's band, Menage A Twang. You can ponder Brecht, baked goods, and boyfriends of the artistic persuasion.

Also, there is a kick ass library space and bocce ball courts. You can't go wrong.

9 pm this Sunday July 27th
Union Hall - 702 Union Street at 5th Avenue

Happy Birthday Alex!!!

S & M plans

Scott and Maggie will either leave Wednesday or Thursday for Rye. Scott is getting his pants tailored and might not be able to get them early enough on Wednesday to make the drive to NH. They are just too tight in the crotch.
If they have enough elastic, and the pants are ready Weds morning- Scott and Maggie will drive to some beach in New Hampshire for a few hours and then try to link up with the Farrell's already there. The back up plan is to head up Thursday morning and do something awesome like whale watching, whale harpooning, or whale equestrian. We will probably stay somewhere in NH on Sunday and Monday before heading back to New York.
Maggie has found a suitable dress and looks forward to showing the family her sense of style and impeccable taste.
